Evening Vogue looks back on this magical moment signed Armani.

Dubai has delusions of grandeur, it is well known. Skyscrapers blooming there at breakneck speed, the Emirati city is cultivating its sense of excess and now intends to establish itself as the world capital of technology, with its Expo 2020, an event celebrating innovation. Postponed initially because of the Covid and deployed over more than 1,000 hectares, this exhibition now hosts around a hundred national pavilions, including an enchanting tropical forest (Singapore), a futuristic obelisk (Saudi Arabia), a mountain landscape (Switzerland), as well as a “sustainable development” pavilion.
A city of excess and opulence, Dubai keeps its promises. To close the One Night Only evening, organized by Giorgio Armani, singer Chris Martin was able to dedicate his song without difficulty to “all those who own one or more skyscrapers”: the crowd was obviously there (and large) .
The event took place outdoors, on the ground floor of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world. The lower 40 floors of this tower are in fact largely home to the Armani Hotel, which was celebrating its 10th anniversary that evening.
The evening obviously welcomed high-profile guests: skyscraper owners, of course, but also actress Sharon Stone, Olympic 100-meter champion Marcell Jacobs, and successful Korean singer Eric Nam. A parade was also taking place, on a catwalk lined with silver palm trees. The Italian brand presented pieces from its haute couture and spring-summer 2022 collections. Nothing new, then, but the Dubai context gave the silhouettes a new shine and a new relevance. In the shadow of the huge Burj Khalifa, surrounded by an armada of skyscrapers, each more grandiose than the next, the pieces in the collection not only resonated with the place but seemed to have been cut for it. As the athlete Marcell Jacobs so aptly put it: “Clothes are built like architecture. It's the architecture of a garment that makes it hold and that makes you feel good in it”.

Men's fashion is obviously a specialty of the Italian couturier. And the parade was marked, unsurprisingly, by superb masculine looks: a black outfit in soft velvet enhanced with fancy accessories, or even a slew of very “Riviera chic” blue jacket/white trouser combinations. The panacea after a very trying day spent at “Expo 2020”… and a feast for the eyes.
As for women's fashion, we must recognize the lightness and freshness of the pieces taken from Giorgio Armani's signature collection, shown that evening: they perfectly matched the dazzling decor of the show. However, it was the second part of the show – entirely dedicated to women's haute couture – which was the highlight and the revelation of the evening. Wrapped in quivering sequins, covered in crystal embroidery and adorned with flowing fringe, the models resembled the skyscrapers that surrounded them. Slender, luminescent and rich in a thousand aesthetic finds, the models radiated.
