Vaishali Shadangule, first Indian designer invited to Haute Couture Week in Paris<

The origin of haute couture is attributed to Charles Frédéric Worth who created the first fashion house in Paris in 1858. Before that, Rose Bertin, Marie-Antoinette's "minister of fashion", had prefigured it and was the first to begin to liberate the female body while adorning her creations with embroidery, lace and rose petals.

After the decree of January 1945, "haute couture" became a legally controlled name which only approved houses can claim. Preferred domain of handmade work carried out in the workshops of the houses - laboratory of ideas and techniques and space where creativity can be expressed - haute couture contributes to making Paris the world capital of fashion. It is distinguished by the uniqueness and individualization of these models which are made to measure for the clientele. Haute couture, like the haute joaillerie presented the same week (Boucheron, Chopard and Mikimoto) is adapting to the times, often feeding on new technologies.

Haute couture has certified members, foreign brands (correspondents) as well as guest members, including two new ones this season: the houses Vaishali S and Pyer Moss present their collection on July 8, 2021 on the last day of Parisian haute couture week. fall-winter 2021-22.

Vaishali S: passion for Indian weavings

Vaishali Shadangule, première créatrice indienne invitée à la semaine de la haute couture à Paris

Vaishali Shadangule is the first Indian designer present at Haute Couture Week. For the moment, there had only been the Indian designer Rahul Mishra to parade on the Parisian catwalks.

Vaishali S is the eponymous brand of Vaishali Shadangule. Born in Vidisha, a town in Madhya Pradesh, the future designer developed a passion for hand-woven Indian textiles and patterns at a very young age. She draws her inspiration from her ability to observe and listen and extends her work with textiles to art and design.

From working with the weavers to the loom and the composition of the fabric, the designer wants to improve the qualities of the textile to bring a more modern aesthetic. Working with authentic woven textiles and telling a story rich in the country's heritage culture, the brand has strived to lend Indian handloom a global design language of expression since March 2001.

Pyer Moss: an "artistic project"

Pyer Moss was founded in 2013 by Jean-Raymond Kerby who sometimes describes the brand as an "artistic project" or "a timely social experiment". Its creator aims to use its voice and platform to challenge social narratives and evoke dialogue. The collections are produced in New York, Italy and Portugal.

Pyer Moss continues to redefine itself each season with collections and shows that combine storytelling, activism, debate, theater and social commentary: it uses collaboration with artists and brands as a medium to deepen its dialogue around seasonal themes. In 2018, Pyer Moss launched a collection with Reebok named Reebok by Pyer Moss as part of its partnership with the footwear giant.
