Vogue: Your first name is the title of your first single. What do you hope fans learn about you by listening to it?
Lalisa Manobal: “I wanted to show who I am through my first single and my solo album. The title track “Lalisa” is also my real name, and it’s a confident name. I've often told the Blinks [Blackpink fans] to always have faith in themselves and themselves, so that's the message I wanted to convey with this title. The title track and the second track, “Money”, are songs that I rap even when I am alone and that make me dance.
What did you learn about yourself working alone that surprised you?
When I was working on this track, I discovered that I not only like melodic rap but also more nervous rap. That's what I did in "Money" and I really liked this hip-hop style, more syncopated, with a heavy beat. It's a new swag that was dormant in me. It's probably the first time fans hear it, and I think it's interesting to compare it to what I do in more melodic rap.
