How to combine spirit no make-up and red carpet? The answer of a Chanel makeup artist<

The Cannes Film Festival rhymes with cinema, of course, but also with evening dresses and sophisticated makeovers. An exercise to which celebrities lend themselves during the traditional climb of the steps. But if glamor is in order, that does not necessarily mean that naturalness and simplicity have no place. Quite the contrary.

The Festival seems to have taken note and sees pared down make-up. Which doesn't mean that they don't work very well. As proven by the actress Vicky Krieps, who came to present two films on the Croisette: Bergman Island, by Mia Hansen-Love, and Serre-moi fort, by Mathieu Amalric.

During her first stair climb for the French director's film on July 11, she chose a top and skirt set that opened the Chanel Haute Couture spring-summer 2021 show. home to the Double C she trusted. And it was Sandrine Cano-Bock who imagined with her the look she would wear that evening. “I had met her for the first time in Deauville. Vicky is a fairly simple person. She has a special relationship with beauty, a very organic approach.” explains the make-up artist. "You just had to reveal her natural beauty, in a very subtle way." Especially since the actress's haute couture outfit already provides the very sophisticated effect expected on the red carpet. “When I asked her what she would have done if she had prepped on her own, she said she would have blush on her cheekbones, mouth and eyelids. I found this angle interesting.

Sandrine Cano-Bock's method? First work on the eyebrows. “In his case, they are not very provided so it is important to redesign them well. Filling in the line helps bring the focus back to the face.” For the eyes, the result is very natural. “I added two small false lash fringes on the side to the lashes to give a faux eyeliner effect on the outer corner. The idea was really to lengthen the look by completing with a touch of mascara. I then worked on the outer corner with the Stylo Yeux Waterproof in cassis.” She added a little mauve-gray eye shadow, placed flush with the eyelashes on the pencil. “On the rest of the eyelid, I used an iridescent beige shade like silk powder”. For the complexion, the make-up artist also stuck to something very simple, with the foundation Teint Belle Mine Naturelle Beige 30 from the Les Beiges de Chanel collection. “I then enhanced the natural red of her cheeks with two different blush: a cream and a glowy. This allows to give color but also the impression that the cheekbone is more emphasized with this luminous effect. Just like the lips of the actress, simply awakened with a touch of tinted balm (Baume à Lèvres Belle Mine Tinté Medium Les Beiges).

The result is a very fresh makeover, a perfect illustration of this false no-make-up that boils down to sublimating the strong points without overdoing it. “I'm not into makeup for makeup's sake. My job is to highlight the natural beauty of those I prepare, but also to understand their vision.” explains the one who also regularly takes care of Vanessa Paradis.
