Leon Bridges, vintage class. The futal pulled up to the armpits in a sixties crooner style, it is a bit like the authentic Ben l'Oncle Soul that really comes from America, from Fort Worth in Texas to be exact. Author, composer and performer of the hit “Coming Home”, his first single from the album of the same name unveiled two years ago earned him the title of artist of the deep south soul scene at the age of 26. Dubbed by Barack Obama for whom the young man interpreted a piece of Ray Charles last February, Leon has not finished lighting the fire in a suit.
Pump-up the volume King of the dancefloor or pillar of a bar, you cruise around in cigarette-cut pants so that they give pride of place to your tanned ankles and your spectacular shoes. In such circumstances, the heat helping, the socks are obviously excluded. It's now or never to pull out the most groovy gimmick of the summer: the two-tone spectator-shoes, those shoes so dear to men of Fred Astaire's caliber. Calvin Klein Collection suit €1,610, Pal Zileri 334 shirt €, O'Keeff e shoes €555, Lanvin belt €350, Degs & Sal necklace, Tiffany & Co. bracelet, vintage ring, Cartier ring €1,100, Moscot glasses €230.
Take out the polo shirt… If you're not keen on the idea of wearing a flowered shirt, don't worry, the polo shirt, preferably colored, remains a safe bet under the suit. Less formal than a shirt and much more chic than a kéké V-neck T-shirt, it diplomatically emphasizes a swing-trained abdominal belt. It goes without saying that it's time to unbutton, you guys are hot! J. Hilburn suit €850, Ermenegildo Zegna polo shirt €260, Bass Weejuns loafers €165, Dior Homme belt €440, David Yurman bracelet 525 €, vintage ring, Bulova watch (price on request).
…or the flowersIf the white shirt is a crime against good taste, the Hawaiian model in silk with a flared collar is a must of the season. To accentuate the tropicool effect, offer an unobstructed view of your tanned chest by opening and pulling out the collar. And, please, don't tuck your shirt into your pants (the bottom isn't rounded) or put a cigar in your mouth. Better a Cuba Libre voucher in the hand. Suit and shirt, Valentino (price on request), Cole Haan shoes €150, Degs & Sal necklace (psd), Tiffany & Co. bracelets €3,100, Tag Heuer watch €7,550 , Cartier ring €1,100, large vintage ring, Stetson hat €79.
Trick and Accessorize If you think a black suit is always classy, you're GQ behind. Stay cool. No one is asking you to dress up or go shopping for a hottie costume. Instead, pick a seasonal specimen from your dressing room, namely light (cotton or unlined wool) in a light tone, camel if you are an avid reader, checkered if you are wise, or simply gray. The important thing is that the pretty blonde leaning on the counter to whom you are going to show off never knows that you wore this same costume yesterday in the canteen. Put on the package... Contrary to the adage, here less is not enough, take out the hat, the watch, the bracelets, the glasses and all that glitters. And then, the accessory makes it possible to personalize an outfit and to break up the formal side of the suit... and forget the tie. Putting on a tie would not earn you more points, on the contrary (remember the canteen). On the other hand, a small printed silk scarf slipped and crossed under the jacket is enough to wake up that little extra soul that was dormant in you. By the way, close your double-breasted jacket (the first button). This is what sets you apart from Uncle Jean-Mi. Dolce & Gabbana suit and shirt (price on request), Caruso scarf €290, Burberry trench coat €1,695, Dior Homme necklace €470, bracelet €525 and ring €464, David Yurman, Stetson hat €79
