HollySiz: "I was a ball of energy when I was little, classical dance helped channel me"<

Third album, third hit. After Rather Than Talking, HollySiz unveils Thank You All I'm Fine, an intimate, pop and intoxicating 5-track EP (including one in French). "I needed to go back to basics, I wanted songs that speak to the body, make you want to dance, because that's what I missed the most this year," she says. A new adventure that the artist has decided to live alone, without a record company, to satisfy a need for freedom. Installed on the Basque coast for seven years, she accompanied her latest child with two colorful cinematographic clips with infectious energy.

Madame Figaro.-How was born Thank You All I’m Fine? HollySiz. - Originally, this song was called Do it, but I had put it aside in favor of other titles. Then, discovering Miss Americana, the documentary on Taylor Swift, I was inspired again. This artist knew how to change the music industry by depriving the platforms of the streaming of her albums, and her audacity inspired me with new lyrics. The EP was then born of encounters, doubts and post-lockdown questions, because the pandemic allowed me to think differently.

Is it easy to leave a record company?It's a bit like a love story that ends. I realized that we were struggling to understand each other, and I felt out of place. But suddenly offering me this freedom was also dizzying. Many artists become independent, but against the majors it remains David against Goliath. And since we don't have the same weapons, it means being even smarter and more creative.

How is your music evolving?I wanted something refined, by reducing, for example, the elements around my voice. This is what touches me the most when the organ is central. Maybe it's because I'm starting to feel legitimate? So I would like to stick to that, while continuing to make people dance.

What place does dance occupy in your life?A central place. There is no place in the world where I feel happier than in a dance studio. It brings together everything I love: research, rigor, surpassing oneself, but also letting go. As a child, I was already a ball of energy, and classical dance allowed me to be channeled.

When will you be back on stage?Hopefully next summer for festival season. These are scenes that I particularly like, because you meet friends there, you see other concerts there, and it's a fun challenge for an artist, because it's an unfamiliar audience. We don't know the percentage of people who stayed for us and those who are waiting for the next one. And there are also many venues in France that I look forward to returning to, such as La Sirène, in La Rochelle, the Big Band Café, in Caen, or La Cigale, in Paris, my very first stage.

What's more Basque about you?I've become the queen of contemplation! I can spend hours looking at nature, people... It's my meditation. And I now live by the rhythm of the tides and the seasons. I really reconnected with all that, and that's why my EP turns out, ultimately, to be quite mineral.
