More than a dozen masks and costumes invade the living room of Salim Ejnaïni, 30, a resident of Libourne (Gironde).

Spiderman, Iron Man or the Green Goblin, characters from the Marvel universe are omnipresent. “I'm happy, my project is gaining momentum. I have made all the masks since April 2020,” he says proudly, posing in front of his creations, which he creates using his hands and several 3D printers.

His particuliarity ? Salim Ejnaïni has been blind since he was 16 due to retinal cancer in both eyes. For him, nothing is impossible and he wants to give hope to visually impaired young people.

Passion for superheroes

The young thirty-year-old takes an electric Iron Man helmet in his hands. "I'm really proud of this one, it's one of the first I made," he says, opening the visor and closing it. "It's almost like it," he laughs as he puts it on.

It was in 2008, just before the release of the film Iron Man, that Salim Ejnaïni became blind: “The memory I have of the character was the film poster! »

Before his operation, Salim was able to play video games, watch Spiderman movies and have a passion for superheroes. "It was not won, my sight was like looking through a straw and at the end, it was blurry," he recalls.

Losing his sight, he decided to pursue this passion but in another way. “I started collecting figurines, all kinds of objects. Today, I make them myself,” he explains.

3D printer production

Salim Ejnaïni seizes the mask of the Green Goblin, a villain in the Marvel universe. “This one, I took ten days to make. The time varies depending on the costumes. It will depend on the precision, the size, etc., ”he explains.

But before printing them, his partner helps him select the costume files he finds on the internet. “She describes to me how he looks in the photo and I imagine him. I know very well what I want, you can't go wrong,” he explains.

Giving hope to visually impaired children

Then he takes care of the rest. “I paint, I finalize the details. Rendering of printers may be wrong sometimes. So he takes the mask in his hands, analyzes it by touch and recognizes what is wrong.

But in addition to his ambitions which go through his Youtube channel in particular. He wants to go to the hospitals. “I would like to see children who suffer from the same or similar illness that I had to show them that later they can become superheroes, in a way. »
