While Brittany has been shrouded in thick fog for several days at the end of autumn, should we see it as a good omen for the Parliament of Brittany that Saturday in Lanrodec was a radiant day, with a sun as hot as in summer? As the dense fog returned the next day...

Little by little they arrive, the future parliamentarians, their family, their friends, the voters accompanied or not by friends and family too, who in the car, who in the motorhome (for those who had planned to spend the night on place), who by train... from all over Brittany, including Nantes vineyards (André Corlay and family), Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire (Anne Cadorel and her husband), and, for the parliamentarians of the < b>diaspora, they came from Mayenne, Paris (Jean-Marc Furon), eastern France (Jonathan Le Bris)..., Christophe Bourdelier was excused from Poland.

Solidarity and mutual aid are already in action in this adventure of the Parliament of Brittany! Because, as requested on (see the article), some had arrived at dawn, with equipment, drinks, lent sound system, pillig, raclette machines for dinner... and to help set up in place of the "Round Table which will in fact be a diamond", straightness of the benches obliged!

Outside the barbecue was already humming to grill the sausages for lunch.

We notice a menhir near the entrance to Jo Baron's barn. It was he who transported it there, and straightened it, while "buried in a nearby field, it was still hooking the plow" he tells us, posing next to ABP! (See the pictures).

As in Surzur on November 27 (see the article), a spontaneous sympathy was born between all-all; the joy of meeting up, or getting to know each other, presided over all the conversations, cordiality was naturally the order of the day among all these Bretons in love with their country and eager to work for it or to attend this historic day of Awakening of the Parliament of Brittany so many years after it was put to sleep.

Gradually the decor of the room is organized, lined with Breton flags, the oath table is adorned with the emblem of the Parliament of Brittany, black and white candles, in the colors of Brittany (candlesticks welded by artist Jean-Loup Le Cuff, black candles found in Great Britain), the dish for Guérande salt, the pottery goblet for the chouchen and the book for taking the oath. It will be :

General customs of the Country and Duchy of Brittany and local customs of the same province with the minutes of the two reformations, the notes of Mr. Pierre Hevin, doyen of the Lawyers of the Parliament, the arrests collected by the same author on the articles of Custom, the Aitiolodie of Messire Bertrand d'Argentré, Seneschal of Rennes..., Rennes, Vatar, ed. 1748 for volume 3.

The local press arrives: Ouest France, Le Télégramme and the local Wednesday weekly L'Écho d'Armor et d'Argoat (see the website)(1). France 3 Brittany region is also there, filming the set and conducting interviews; the channel will broadcast a one-minute, 48-second report the same evening in the TV news (2).

The parliamentarians take their places on the first benches, voters and friends on the back benches - some voters, who will help during the ceremony, have put on their special scarf, with green edging (see on the photos).

We note here that, although there are women parliamentarians, it is not by mistake or contempt that we have written everything in the masculine, but for convenience of drafting.

We take this opportunity to thank Didier Lefebvre, inventor of the title for the Surzur article (see the article): ...back to Surzur, back to the future! , because we only had to be inspired by it for the rest here!

The ceremony begins on time. Jean-Loup Le Cuff - the president of the association Kelc'h an Dael (KAD, the Circle of Parliament) at the origin of the idea of ​​the awakening - guides the course of the inductions according to the ritual which he had announced on (see the article).

But first, he would like to tell the story of Jo Baron - our host - and the ecotax gates, of his undeserved condemnation, of his recent release. Jo Baron, moved, thanks.

He also explains the origin of his own red scarf, adorned with a stater, a copy of an object found in Brittany.

Then Jean-Loup Le Cuff clarifies the Awakening:

"The Bretons never voted for the dissolution of Parliament, so it can be awakened, by a new reconstituting election which we will proceed today. What KAD has managed to do after about 5 years of work. The exchanges since 2011 on social networks, after a demonstration in Kemper for the Breton language in 2012 decided on the creation of KAD ".

"It's the first time we've held this ceremony, this kind of election has never taken place and there's improvisation in the set-up!" (3)

"The old parliament comprised the three orders: the nobility, the clergy and the third estate".

"The new will be under the sign of democracy".

"The new Breton democracy is on the move" (it is 3:30 p.m.).

Then he read the text of the oath in French, translated into Breton sentence by sentence, on the fly, by Fañch Dupuis. Jo Baron does the Gallo translation.

The book of the oath

Jean-Loup Le Cuff had planned to bring an authentic work by Bertrand d'Argentré, a great Breton jurist and historian, the 1628 edition of the "Commentaire des Coutumes de Brittany". But a last-minute problem while finishing soldering the candlesticks meant that this book stayed at home...

No matter, he contacted Servane Huonic, director of the IDBE (Breton and European Documentation Institute (see the site)). As a neighbor in Guingamp, she arrives immediately with a replacement book, less old but which is quite suitable because it is also related to Bertrand d'Argentré.

The ceremony

The parliamentarians present, called in turn in descending order of the number of votes obtained at Surzur, take the oath, their left hand on Bertrand d'Argentré's Book, their right hand on the heart, take a little Breton salt from Guérande, drink a little chouchen - the salty and sweet of Brittany, or symbols of the sea and the land of Brittany - then go and sign the oath in the other big book, That of the 2017-2019 parliamentary cycles (see photo n° 39, screenshot of FR3 better placed than us, and ph. n° 25 for the binding [by whom?]).

Some forgot the chouchen, called to order laughingly by Jean-Loup [Editor's note: Who said or still says that Bretons are alcoholics? !]

Before taking the oath, everyone introduced themselves briefly, said their wishes and goals for Brittany, a brief summary of their profession of faith, in short.

Then, as André Corlay had read the entire text of the oath (4), concocted in French by Jean-Loup, but read in Breton and Gallo before the start of the ceremony, each parliamentarian declared "I adhere to the text read by André".

The ritual follows its course: salt, chouchen, signature, in the meditation of all, with just the clicks of the photos, without forgetting then the applause for each of the new inductees.

They pass afterwards, to receive their special scarves (5), in the hands of Odile and Antoinette - Kad's faithful secretaries - promoted to "dressers" for the occasion and return to their bench.

Between inductions, JLLC sometimes sends messages.

Jean-Loup specifies that the scarves are currently fixed with a pin, which will be replaced by a Parliament pin (on order) that everyone can wear freely, on all occasions. If their sight raises questions, especially among young Bretons, it is advisable to talk about it...

- The candles don't melt quickly, as you can see. To extinguish them, we will not blow them out. There is a superstition that says it would be a soul that flies away... We will therefore get our fingers wet.

- The scarves must be returned after each session, to avoid copies or misappropriation. It also illustrates the notion of sharing - they will not be personal. After three years, if the person is not re-elected, he can keep his scarf.

The final vote of the day: Elect the Triangle

Parliamentarians are asked: "Who would like to run for the Presidents' Triangle?"

Five names are given. Everyone votes in the Breton hat.

The proxies given to Members of Parliament are obviously taken into account.

Chosen

1 - Yann Kez Gaultier, 23 votes, chairman;

2 - André Corlay, 17 votes, first vice-president;

3 - Mary Olivo, 9 votes, second vice-president.

Once the Parliament Presidency Triangle is elected, their parliamentary sashes are exchanged for red-edged Presidency sashes.

Everyone goes to congratulate the chosen ones, rushes for the photo - which we will take later because it will soon be the time of the Bro Gozh historic and we do not want to lose our privileged perch for the video ( 7) ! It will be conducted at the microphone by Anne Cadorel, voter, and Davy French, parliamentarian, with the first three verses.

Then the new President makes a small speech in his name and that of the new Parliament of Brittany installed.

The presence of a woman in these positions is largely positively highlighted in the evening that follows, with a delicious dinner.

After the report aired on France3 and since Yann-Kez's interview did not air (same reasons? but the content was different), the next day we questioned the man who had become the president of the Breton Parliament, who repeated to us the main lines of his speech.

"After 5 years of gestation, we are living a historic day following the Breton national election in Surzur on November 27 (link above), the elected parliamentarians are now invested in their new function ".

"I have the honor of having been chosen to assume the function of president, and, with my two vice-presidents, Marie Olivo and André Corlay, to engage the first [gear]!"

"With regard to the parliamentarians of the diaspora, we are considering the establishment of a correspondence system specific to the Breton spirit of sharing, respect, solidarity, and without quarrels (!), as the have the Bretons of conviction".

In the assembly this Saturday afternoon, there were computer scientists, academics, artists, people who have sometimes already joined a political party but who have been disappointed. They hope that their Parliament of Brittany will be the occasion to be able to talk again about the autonomy of Brittany. Among the 33 elected, 9 are part of the Breton diaspora and were unable to attend the creation of this rather special parliament.

Legally, the Parliament of Brittany no longer exists since the end of the French Revolution.

(5) The special scarves were designed by one of the parliamentarians, Yann-Kez Gaultier, made in Nantes by a Breton, on a professional machine. One of the motifs, with interlocking links, symbolizes the Alliance (see photo).

(6) David French: He tells ABP in perfect French with a very slight accent - which led us to question him afterwards - that he is English, born in Kent, and became Breton at heart! He has a British passport but, having left Britain for more than 20 years, he is no longer eligible to vote there.

He left England at the age of 28 for Normandy first, for 6 years (to flee Mrs Thatcher). Meeting Bretons there, one of whom took him to the Lorient Festival one day, he said to himself "I want to live in Brittany". He sells his house in Normandy, settles in Brittany, is part of a Celtic Circle, learns the history of Brittany and Breton.

One day in Karaez in a bar he was speaking Breton with Andrew Lincoln, president of Diwan at the time and the customers couldn't believe it: Two English people who speak Breton!

He knows Breton songs, including those of Barzaz Breiz, he sings them whenever possible, in the evenings with friends. He even wrote a thirteenth verse of An Alarc'h, the song which celebrates the return of Duke Jean IV to Brittany.

Indeed the relations between Brittany and England particularly interest him; he even tells us, briefly, the story of the assassination of Arthur I of Brittany by Jean-sans-Terre...!
