Marvel and DC: the 10 most sexist situations our favorite heroines have faced<

The question of the representation of women in the world of comics has always been undervalued. Although some efforts have been made for several decades, sexism still persists, and our favorite heroines constantly walk in the shadow of their male counterparts. We are far from the badass heroine more represented nowadays.

Here is a little return on the most sexist situations seen in the comics. Some are almost medieval.

#1: Orion Spanks Wonder Woman

In Wonder Woman #17, the god Orion spanks the Amazon queen simply because he finds her charming. She shows him her displeasure with simple words. It is not sure that today, the story would have ended in the same way...

#2: Spanking #2: Superman vs. Lois Lane

Another spanking. This time, it's Superman who sends one to Lois Lane in Lois Lane #14. In the comics, Superman creates a clone to rescue his girlfriend from a perilous situation. While this isn't Superman in the flesh, the deed is done. Obviously, during the Golden Age, spanking was commonplace in comics. Fortunately, progress has been made since then.

#3: Power Girl Bust Excessively Highlighted

This Power Girl outfit seems to have been unrealistically designed, so much so that today it could be compared to a cover of a glam magazine. A degrading image.

#4: Batgirl cracks her pantyhose

Marvel et DC : les 10 situations les plus sexistes auxquelles ont fait face nos héroïnes préférées

In 1967, Barbara Gordon came to the aid of Batman and Robin in fighting crime on the streets of Gotham. But on several occasions, the scriptwriters belittled the heroine by involving her in stereotypical situations. Here, then in the middle of a fight, Batgirl cracks her pantyhose, as if to remind her that above all she must stay in her place. This cover of Detective Comics #371 goes so far as to say that Batgirl cares more about her outfit than helping the duo out of a dangerous situation.

#5: Emma Frost's Outfit

Since the 80s, Emma Frost has been fighting against and alongside the X-Men in rather skimpy outfits. Here, the boards are more of a desire to engage in voyeurism than to make the outfit fit for combat. Characteristic of the cyberpunk universe of the 80s, even a little too much.

#6: Milo Manara's Spider-Woman Cover

How about this cover of Spider-Woman #1 by artist Milo Manara, who is known for his erotic comic art. The artwork shows Jessica Drew in a tight, too tight costume. Here, the representation of the woman as a sexual object reaches its climax.

#7: Ben Grimm wants to spank Sue Storm

Spanking number 3. Here, The Thing seems to want to spank the Invisible Woman as Mr. Fantastic looks on, who doesn't seem to flinch. Not sure that it would be necessary to count on the latter to help his neighbor in the subway.

#8: Batgirl straightens her mask like a girl would fix her hair

Here, the author insists on the cliché of the woman who puts herself back in order in every awkward situation, even in the event of an extreme emergency.

#9: Black Widow was not available as a standalone figure

We leave the universe of comics a bit to immerse ourselves in Action-Man type figurines. This Black Widow figurine was only used to accompany the Captain America set, no more and no less. In the film Avengers: Age of Ultron, released in theaters in 2015, this set represented a stunt performed by Black Widow herself. Reducer, again.

#10: Her-Oines

After several quirks from female readers, Marvel launched a superhero-centric comic book series in 2010 called Girl Comics, which was an anthology of comics by girls, for girls. Then they announced Her-Oes with younger versions of some of the Marvel heroines. History to pass the pill in a way I don't care, and to leave the girls between them so that they are silent. Terrible.
