"I have nothing of a racist man!" : Michel Sardou persists and makes a final clarification on the subject!<

The public at the Tours Convention Center turned out en masse to attend Sacha Guitry's play, Don't listen, Ladies, on Sunday 5 December. In the casting, there is a certain... Michel Sardou.

The 74-year-old star now only crowds the stage to put on his comedian costume. "I didn't want to play something serious, serious, heavy. I wanted to make people laugh, a quality laugh. Guitry is still well written, it's not everyday talk", said he confided to the New Republic adding that he is satisfied to see "people delighted, having fun", especially after this difficult period with the Covid". "Laughter, for me, is the salt of the theater (...) Hearing a room laugh, it gives me great pleasure. When they go out, they are happy, they tell you 'we had a very good evening '. For me, the theater begins and ends there".

"I've never been a racist in my life!"

During this interview, the interpreter of The River of our childhood was questioned in particular the label that we could give him throughout his career. "It was the fashion at the time, I was the only one who tackled subjects and had different points of view from other singers of my generation. Obviously, I was the first to be attacked. As soon as you leave the norm, you get attacked, that's for sure. It's calmed down. Now I'm part of the furniture. They don't attack me on that anymore."

Michel Sardou has been the subject of numerous criticisms, the fault of some of his songs or phrases, in particular the one pronounced in 2004, during a concert in Brussels: "Now that he has a chalet in Gstaad, Hallyday will be able to his Vietcong (Jade Hallyday, editor's note) on skis".

"I've never been a racist in my life! Or reactive! I don't care. They can say it but they're stupid. I'm not a racist man, never in my life! I'm a liberal I was more of a Gaullist than a communist (...) but that stopped there. My songs are songs and are only songs. It doesn't matter more than that. A song is for walking, it's for dancing, it's for dreaming. It's not for being elected."
