There are lots of good reasons to be addicted to Killing Eve.The series, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whose season 3 is being broadcast on BBC America (and Canal+ Chez nous) since April 12, is a little gem of black humor, carried by a duo of actresses (Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer) tasty. This psycho-lesbian thriller brilliantly subverts the codes of the good macho of espionage. Thus, the character of the Psychotic Villanelle killer - with behavior that is both childish, violent and unpredictable - quickly became the darling of the fans.
We wanted to dwell on one of his trademarks: his joyful wardrobe.During the first season, his style was shaped by the Costume desigière Phoebe de Gaye, who had already worked with Jodie Comer on the mini-series The White Princess in 2017.In an interview with BAFTA in 2019 (where she was one of the names in the Costume Design category), she explains her work:
She dwells on the clothing choices established for Villanelle, a young bisexual woman, both fashionable and led to carry all kinds of improbable costumes - Sydney Bristow way in alias - to carry out her lethal missions."Villanelle is a real chameleon. She constantly changes a personality. It was therefore interesting to see her wear very marked looks, either male, or very girly, bourgeois or sporting ... "Especially since she has the" mannequin size "measurements of Jodie Comer, so to say thatEverything goes: from the bourgeois dress to the pajamas to the comic book prints while not passing the androgynous suit.

Villanelle is attracted as much by women as by men.And one of the ways of accentuating her sexual orientation is in her wardrobe: she wears a plethora of suit, pieces traditionally attached to male wardrobes and acclaimed by the lesbian community, which subverts the patriarchal order by wearing themproudly. The same goes for our anti-heroine addicted to clothes. One of the first costumes in which she slips is this piece printed above, signed Dries Van Notten, worn with boots and the green silk scarf that she stole in Eve, the object of her obsession. In an interview with The Cut, her interpreter Jodie Comer elected her favorite look of season 1.
We are not going to list here exhaustively (there is this article which classifies all its outfits of the first two seasons) whenever Villanelle has put on a costume of great designer, with elegance and dyke Energy which characterize it.Note also that she has a big weakness for blazers of all kinds.Let's move forward in season 3, where the day of her wedding, we find her in a sublime slim-fit smoking, signed as boys.

In another genre, the kilion of a thousand and one fashion ideas sometimes wears a more modern, practical look, with military accents.Note that it also has a safest hair taste. When the braids are out, it's going to end badly!
In contrast to the inversion of gendered dress codes, the facetious villanelle does not hide its love for dresses (because yes, you can like very feminine dresses and men's and men's shirts) of all kinds, and inparticular those who are very flashy pink. His most iconic outfit in Killing Eve is presented to us in episode 2 of season 1.This is this pink candy tutu dress, which caused a lot of ink to flow on fashion blogs at the time of its broadcast, in April 2018, propeling the career of her designer at the same time, Molly Goddard.Gaye's Phoebe costume designer returned to this find:
Another dress, long and sky blue signed Burberry, wooded during season 1, while the implacable killer killer must carry out a new fatal mission, in the middle of a wedding in Tuscany. On the clothes side as a murder side, Villanelle never misses. We note once again the port of Gavroche atmosphere atmosphere to break a girly effect that is too traded if she had, for example she put on pumps or ballerinas. The way in which Villanelle is sitting, with cool, one leg folded on the other, also says a lot about her refusal to follow gender conventions.

Villanelle has more than one look at its bow.Like a doll that plays to dress herself, she continues very different styles depending on the occasions, pro or personal, and according to her mood of the day.She likes in particular the bourgeois pieces with sophisticated cuts, especially when it comes to facing Eve.For example, in this passage of season 2 - the Costume desigière Phoebe de Gaye gave way to Charlotte Mitchell - the hidewood writes a letter to Eve in a cafe. She wears this pink blouse (wink to the famous pink dress of season 1) of superior elegance, signed Rosie Amazing, with a vintage fuchsia skirt and spectacular Christian Lacroix earrings.

Another variation of pink (powdered this time) and good chic good genre room with this Burberry trench while our fashion Victim walks in Paris, as if it came from another series, at random and the city.

In the final of season 2, Villanelle faces Eve once again, at the Colosseum. She wears a total Lanvin red look (embellished with a Gucci black belt) which announces in her own way the scene of painful rupture - red is the color of love passion but also of violence - then the gesture of the young woman,Who "sees red" and shoots at close range (but not in the heart or in the head) on his sweetheart, who has just refused to run away with her.

And when it comes to going to sleep, hanging out at home or hitting the encrusts in others, our killer particularly likes silk pieces, including pajamas and bathrobes with flowery or Asian patterns.

Each season, a new person continues the work started by the Costume desigière Phoebe de Gaye. After Charlotte Mitchell in season 2, Sam Perry took over for the third season, currently in broadcast, adding her stone to the building of the changing and always worked style of Villanelle. After an empty passage following her numerous embodiments and adventures, the young woman begins this season 3 in the top of her form, again engaged by the twelve to kill high penets of the elite, around Europe.
To give the character all the presence and fashionable confidence, Sam Perry opted for a retro and bohemian style, which transcribes the postcard atmosphere of each city where it arises. He explains to Vogue:
Some striking examples, from left to right: a halpern costume and Simon Miller boots, a long flowe dress from the brand The Vampire's Wife, a midnight blue suit with raised shoulders Dice Kayek and Simone Rocha boots, then this dress with psychedelic printsDoublej worn with Golden Goose boots that do not go unnoticed either, like all these looks in fact.

Wearing these clothes is a way for Villanelle to shout in the face of the world "I'm fine!"While in reality, she has a hard time not thinking about Eve.
As a cherry on the podium, we finish this fashion analysis of the most stylish character of the small screen by a small bonus of his wildest and therefore the most brilliant "pro" outfits.Because our wife is a bit of a Sydney Bristow with a big grain, she rarely chooses appropriate or discreet looks to go on a mission. The proof by three.
There is the famous Comic Book superhero pajamas (S2E1), clearly the best clothes stolen by Villanelle in the whole series so far.

Difficult also to forget this completely crazy "slut" outfit (S2E4), which will once again be used to kill a man.And more recently, we were able to appreciate Villanelle play the creepy clowns for once again, carry out a bloody mission. This is perhaps the ultimate costume for our chameleon, who likes nothing as much as being at the center of attention, and to play to frighten his neighbor.Yes, but she always does it in style.
Season 3 of Killing Eve is currently broadcast on Canal+ series (and from May 14 on Canal+).
