The design of costumes for the Super Bowl half-time allows Matthew M. Williams to raise his fashion reputation even more. For the record, he took his first steps on the fashion scene during an internship for his football coach's clothing brand in Pismo Beach, California, before working for Lady Gaga and Kanye West, respectively, as creative director and artistic director. Later, he created his own brand Alyx and was appointed artistic director of Givenchy. "[the Super Bowl] is such an incredible platform, not only for sport, but also for arts, music and fashion," explains the creator. "for me, as a designer, the most exciting part is to find out what these [part-time shows] are going to look like."
Creating a costume for an artist like the weeknd-that is, following in the footsteps of former art directors of the house like Alexander McQueen (who dressed Janet Jackson with his eponymous brand in 2004) and Riccardo Tisci (Madonna in 2011)-is, Matthew M. Williams concludes, "a dream come true".
