The editor of the Humboldt Times decides to publish the letter. He then receives many identical testimonies. The wild man is christened "Bigfoot" (big feet) by a construction worker. The formula hits the mark and quickly spreads across the country. Jerry Crew (the one who discovered the prints first) is initiated by a taxidermist friend in the handling of plaster of Paris. On October 1, 1958, he made superb casts of these prints. The photos of these casts will make the front page of all the newspapers and all the magazines. The American yeti has just been born: he is now called Bigfoot.
