In the suburbs of Athens, this workshop reproduces ancient masterpieces to perfection<

If imitation is the sincerest form of compliment, then Agios Ioannis Rentis' workshop is full of compliments to ancient Greek art. In this city in the southern suburbs of Athens, craftsmen produce faithful copies of ancient statues such as that of the Venus de Milo or the god of Artemision. (Besides the specialists are still not in agreement, is it Zeus or Poseidon?)

These statues land in souvenir shops like the one in the Acropolis of Athens or the Archaeological Museum of Sparta. The replicas are also on display in museums in Greece and around the world as well as in public places, notably in a metro station in Qatar, where travelers are greeted by a look-alike of the Delphic charioteer who is missing a arm.
