The reviews posted about the Shanley Hotel in Napanoch, NY are somewhat troubling. People who recently spent the night in this Dutch neo-colonial architecture guest house built in 1895 say they heard strange footsteps, mysterious hisses, and saw a translucent zombie cat pass by.
It's surprising, then, that these same hosts give the place top marks. The reason ? They descend on this establishment expressly to see (or feel) ghostly presences.
The Shanley (a good look-alike of the Amytiville house) is on the Haunted History Trail, a route along which we find the hotels, museums, cemeteries and the most sinister places in New York State, including a supposedly haunted asylum and amusement park. Launched in 2013, this one originally only ran through a handful of locations but now has over 90 spooky locations.
